We have a few exciting changes for 2025:

Match Name Change – We are retiring the Sporting Rifle Match name and replacing it with Coal Canyon Precision Rifle Match.  The rimfire match is now the Coal Canyon Precision Rimfire Match.  However, both matches will remain basically unchanged.  (The 2025 Schedule is available at the “Schedule” and “Downloads” tabs.)

New Match Director – As many of you already know, our long time Match Director, Mike Kolar decided to retire from the match at the end of the 2024 season.  Fortunately, Mike wanted to ensure that the match continued for years to come.  Over the past year, Mike has been working to prepare his successor and new Match Director, David McInnis for the job.  Most match regulars will recognize David as a long time shooter (and frequent winner) of the match.

New Rimfire Match Director – Mike also wanted the Rimfire Match to continue on.  Taking over the Match Director position for the Rimfire Match is Brad Riley.  Brad has been a Rimfire Match regular and also runs the 2-gun match at the Coal Canyon site each year.

New Novice Division – The most common complaint we get from new and junior competitors is that they don’t have enough time to engage all of the targets.  So, we are introducing a new “Novice Division” that will allow 4 minutes to complete each stage in lieu of the 3 minutes allowed for Open Division.  More details available here.

Saturday:

• Match set-up (we can always use help) 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM
• Practice range open 3:00 – 5:00 PM
• Early match sign-in 4:00 – 5:00 PM

Sunday:

Special Winter hours for February and March matches

• Match sign-in  7:45 to 8:15 AM
• Practice range open 7:45 to 8:30 AM
• Gate locked and mandatory shooters meeting at 8:45 AM
• Match will start at 9:00 AM

As always, be sure to check back here before you leave home as matches are subject to cancellation due to weather conditions and other factors.

Please remember that all competitors in the various Coal Canyon Precision Rifle Match events must fill out and sign a NRA Whittington Center liability waiver annually.  We would prefer that you use the link below and do it online, but we will have the paper version for you to fill out and sign at each match as well.

Matches are limited as to the number of competitors.  Preregistration on Practiscore is strongly recommended to reserve a position for each match.  Preregistration for each match opens approximately 30 days prior the match date.  Match fees are to be paid in cash at each match.

IMPORTANT:  Matches are sometimes cancelled at the last minute due to weather of other unforeseen conditions.  Be sure to check back before you travel as we will post any cancellation notices here.
